Buggin’ About

Every Friday (term time), 10am – 11.30am, £5 per child

Our pre-school nature group meets every Friday in term time. With a different theme each week the activities are planned to support your child’s development in all areas of learning as well as nurture their love of nature. There is themed craft activities, outdoor exploration, mud kitchen, water play and firepit. Buggin’ About where nature and adventure combine.

Wild Wednesdays

Every Wednesday throughout the school summer holidays; 24th & 31st July, 7th & 14th & 21st & 28th August, 9am – 3pm, £20 per child per session

Our every popular drop and leave sessions run throughout the school summer holidays. Leave the parents at home and join us at the centre for a full day of outdoor activiites: den building, pond dipping, scavenger hunt, team games, firepit cooking and nature craft. Just bring a packed lunch.

Buggin’ About Family Special

Friday 26th July, 10am – 11.30am, £5 per pre-schooler & £3 per sibling

The Buggin’ About fun continues this summer wtih the first of our family special sessions. We’ll have all the usual outdoor fun – mud kitchen, water play, firepit, exploration and nature craft. On these family specials you can bring along your siblings and show them how much fun you have at the centre! Don’t have a sibling? Don’t worry you can still join in all the usual Buggin’ About activities as normal.

Big Butterfly Count

Saturday 27th July, 10am – 1pm, £4.50 per child with 1 adult

Join us for the Big Butterfly Count!

Come and help us survey all of our local butterflies to see how many butterflies we have nearby, as well as which kinds! There will be lots of butterfly-themed activities too to keep you entertained, and this should be an excellent opportunity for some butterfly (and other summer wildlife) photography! We will also be releasing some real butterflies into the centre grounds, kindly raised by our volunteer Glenys. Watch them take flight for the first time!

Tickets are for 1 child with 1 accompanying adult. Extra adults may be asked to wait outside to ensure there is enough room for all attendees – thank you for your cooperation!

Make It Day

Friday 2nd August, 10.00am – 2.00pm, £2 per person

Get creative and draw your own design onto your choice of item. Pay £2 to book your place via Eventbrite then turn up any time between 10am and 2pm. Choose and pay for your items on the day. Select from hats, bags, pencil cases or make up bags. What unique design will you create?

SEC Open Day

Saturday 3rd August, 10am to 2pm, Free

Join us for a Singleton Environment Centre open day! We will have stalls from the Repair Cafe, Sewing Circle, some handmade jewellery, Knit and natter, and more. Learn about all there is to see and do at the Singleton Environment Centre, and meet some likeminded people at the same time! Tickets are free, booking simply gives us an idea on how to prepare for the number of expected visitors.

A Day At The Beach

Saturday 3rd August, 10am to 1pm, £4.50 for one adult and one child

Enjoy the seaside without the sand getting all over the car, in A Day At The Beach! You and your little one will get to build your very own beach, using real sand, shells, paint, pebbles and more, until you’ve made the beach of your dreams! There will also be the chance to craft a pair of paper sunglasses, a colouring competition to take part in and a treasure trail too – something for everyone!

Seniors Club

Monday 5th August, 1.30pm – 3.30pm, £3.50 per person

Our new Seniors Club continues on 5th August and will continue on the first Monday of each month. With a range of activities on offer this club is ideal to enable our local seniors to spend quality time in the company of others. No need to book in advance for this one, just turn up on the day and pay in cash when you arrive.

 

Clay Critters

Tuesday 6th August, 10am – 11.15am OR 12.30pm – 1.45pm, £5.00 per child

Do you love minibeasts? Join us at the centre to make your very own model minibeast. You’ll be using air drying clay to sculpt and model your insect. Take your model home to finish drying and paint it at home. There will also be time to search the centre grounds to seek out the real life minibeast you created. Which minibeast friends will you find?

Bin Bots

Thursday 8th August, 10am – 12pm OR 1pm – 3pm, £8.50 per child

Accessible Coders and Singleton Environment Centre have teamed up to bring you a meaningful coding session. At this drop and leave event your child will learn about the effects of climate change and how correct waste management can have a positive impact on our planet. They will then design their own bin robot and learn how to use electronics to make it open & close and speak! They will get to take home their unique working Bin Bots.

Nature Stories: Superworm

Friday 9th August, 10am – 11.30am, £6 per child

Our new Nature Stories session for this summer is Superworm. Join us as we adventure around the centre grounds on this immersive storytelling session. On our journey we’ll complete craft and activities related to different parts of the story. You’ll be making your very own superhero cape; digging for treasure; creating a member of the insect gang on a wooden fridge magnet; making a dreamcatcher web to capture any bad dreams about Wizard Lizard; playing Superworm games; and helping to make the longest, super-est Superworm of all!

Relaxation

Saturday 10th August, 10am – 1pm, £10 per person

Next up in Jenny Tippen’s series of well-being sessions is Relaxation! In this event you’ll learn breathing exercises, instant calming techniques, a tension and relaxation technique, the history of healing with colour and both Jenny’s beach relaxation and colour relaxation technique.

Relaxation using colour has been proven to be very effective, even when other techniques have failed. It has also been helpful in the control and management of pain when practised regularly.

Terrarium Workshop

Saturday 17th August, 1pm – 3.30pm, £35 for a small or £45 for a medium

Terrapy workshops introduce you to the wonderful world of terrariums, how they work, their fascinating history and how to make one. Choose from a small terrarium or a medium terrarium. Your tropical creation will be yours to keep forever.

Jaws and Claws

Thursday 22nd August, various time slots throughout the day, £6.00 per person

Phil from Jaws n Claws returns this month with his wonderful selection of animals for these fun filled animal handling sessions. Are you feeling brave? All the animals are super friendly.

Please note that everyone needs a ticket to be able to attend this event including all accompanying adults. There will be no entry to the room without a valid ticket.

Nature Stories: Zog

Friday 23rd August, 10.00am – 11.30am, £5.00 per child

As our last Zog Nature Stories session was so popular we are running this immersive story telliong session again. Join us for a journey around the centre grounds as we tell the story of Zog and take part in related craft activities to bring the story to life. Our activities include making dragon wings, toasting marshmallows, making sore throat potions for Zog, hunting princesses and making stick swords to fight the knights.

Bank Holiday Fun Morning

Saturday 24th August, 10 – 11:30 or 11:30 – 13:00, £4.50 per child

Enjoy a Summer bank holiday with lots of nature activities! There will be nature arts and crafts for your little one to do, as well as some wild art, a treasure hunt and more! There will also be small prizes available for certain activities so keep an eye out for those…

Pebble Painting

Saturday 24th August, 10am – 11:30am/11:30am – 1pm, £4.50 for one adult and 1 child

Have you ever encountered a painted pebble out on a walk? Those little artworks bring a surprise smile to our faces as we find them, and now you can make one for yourself!

Pebble painting offers a new experience to seasoned painters, but is also beginner-friendly and a great way to embrace your creativity. You could paint a landscape, animal, character, a positive message, the potential is endless! There will also be the usual activities to go alongside the pebble painting, to ensure you have a thoroughly enjoyable morning. Tickets are for one adult and one child, additional adults may be asked to wait outside to ensure there is enough room for all participants. Thank you for your understanding.

Pond Dipping

Thursday 29th August, 10am – 1pm, £3 per person

Come and discover what is living in our pond. Will you find a water scorpion? Perhaps you’ll be lucky enough to net a newt! Maybe you’ll find a water beetle? The event runs from 10am – 1pm. You can turn up at any time between these times. Please note that you may need to wait a while during busy times but everyone booked on witll get a go. Please remember to purchase a ticket for everyone wishing to participate. It’s not just for kids but great fun for adults too!

Autumn Quiz

Saturday 19th October, 7:30pm to 10:30pm, £5 per person equivalent for teams of 4 to 6

Form your team of 4 to 6 and join us for the Autumn edition of the Singleton Environment Centre quiz! There’s sure to be some tough questions for you and your fellow quizzers to enjoy, with some autumnal questions thrown in along the tradition general knowledge. Put your brain to the test, enjoy your own snacks and drinks and compete to see who will come out on top!

Pond dipping

Please note the pond is only available as a supervised activity and these are limited in number. The newts are a protected species.

Under careful supervision, and with approved nets and specimen trays, our very special pond will be explored on future dates – TBC.
